History

BioCapTech is a Lorraine-based start-up created in 2012, born from the meeting between Jean-Claude Pihan, Professor at the University of Metz, who wished to solve the issue of invasive aquatic plants while respecting the entire ecosystem, and Loïc Chomel de Varagnes, a SME manager in metalworking, seeking new technologies to ensure sustainable development in the Lorraine Region.

For three years, our partners, including the Lorraine Region, Feder, 7 research laboratories, and 3 companies, contributed to the development of this wonderful project. This invaluable support enabled the company to finalize an innovative offer respectful of the ecosystem. These years of research led to the discovery of an allelopathic active substance effective against invasive aquatic plants, cyanobacteria, and algae.

To test this substance on various aquatic plants and to best adapt the treatment to different ecosystems, BioCapTech has been in the testing phase since October 2015 and has signed agreements with several Lorraine municipalities such as Pont-à-Mousson, Mercy-le-Bas, Bousse, and also with VNF (Voies Navigables de France) on the Burgundy Canal.

These trials, with positive results, predict strong growth for this start-up in the coming years.
